Go on, admit it, you’re attracted to Bitcoin because you hope the price will go up and you’ll make a load of money.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Most people come to Bitcoin initially for ‘Number Go Up’ or NGU. Those who then go on to study Bitcoin in detail, tend to hold their Bitcoin for the long term.

By contrast, if you never make an effort to understand what Bitcoin really is, you will probably sell it as soon as the price of Bitcoin goes down.

Did you know Bitcoin can be traded 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? They say New York never sleeps, but it’s really Bitcoin that has insomnia. It puts in an even bigger shift than my colleague Ampleforth.

Below we display the live price of Bitcoin. It’s the price in US Dollars, but you can change it to a number of other currencies using the dropdown list.

Remember, 1 Bitcoin = 100,000,000 Satoshis. So it doesn’t mean you can’t buy Bitcoin if you can’t afford a whole Bitcoin. Just buy a smaller amount of Bitcoin that you can afford. For example, 0.1 Bitcoin – a tenth of a Bitcoin – is 10,000,000 Satoshis.

It’s like if you want to buy gold. If you can’t afford a kilogram of gold – worth approximately $80,000 – then buy some grams of gold. E.g. 100 grams of gold costs about $8,000.

Whether you buy gold denominated in kilograms or grams, it’s still gold. Same with Bitcoin: whether you buy it denominated as Bitcoin or Satoshis, it’s still Bitcoin.
